New Hall Hotel & Spa, the mediaeval manor at Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, has been awarded the coveted Red Star rating by the AA – the 11th hotel in the Hand Picked Hotels collection to be awarded the accolade.
The 4 Red Star award for the historic moated hotel, which once played host to Henry VIII, gives Hand Picked Hotels the highest proportion of Red Stars in the UK and Ireland for a collection of 20 or more hotels. Other Hand Picked Hotels in the Midlands with 4 Red Stars are Ettington Park Hotel, Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire, and Fawsley Hall Hotel & Spa, Fawsley, Northamptonshire. The Red Star rating is the AA’s supreme accolade, awarded to hotels selected as the best in the British Isles, offering excellent levels of quality, outstanding levels of hospitality and service.
In its citation for the 4 Red Stars for New Hall Hotel & Spa, the AA stated: “New Hall has developed into the property seen today, with a clear commitment to the physical attributes of the property including newly developed public areas, maximising guest space and comfort in this historic building. Hospitality and service remain at the heart of Hand Picked Hotels, with a dedicated team offering personalised experience.”
At 800 years old, New Hall is England’s oldest listed inhabited moated house. Its drawbridge, crenelated towers and mullioned windows, combined with the very best contemporary facilities, offer a magnificent setting for leisure, weddings and business. New Hall has impressive facilities, including The Bridge Restaurant with 2 AA rosettes, a spa and health club offering the latest, indulgent treatments, 60 stylish bedrooms, including nine feature rooms, and first-class meetings and business space, including The Great Chamber, a magnificent room built for Henry V111’s visit to Sutton Coldfield. The hotel provides a picture-perfect setting for weddings, with the glorious backdrop of the manor house and extensive gardens and grounds. The hotel has excellent road, rail and air links, with easy access to the M6 and M42, NEC and Birmingham International Airport.
Julia Hands, Chairman of Hand Picked Hotels, said: “The Red Star rating by the AA is a wonderful endorsement for New Hall. It is a great compliment to the level of service and dedication offered by the Hand Picked team to make each stay a truly memorable experience. We are also delighted to now have a higher proportion of Red Stars than any other hotel collection, an excellent reflection on the standards achieved across the group.”
