Packed with fresh flavours, if you are a true tea connoisseur you will love discovering our range of Clipper teas
Did you know that 84% of the British population drink tea and herbal brews every day – that is a staggering 165 million cups, and many ‘sleepy time’ teas are made from the same compounds used in supplements that promote sleep, like valerian or chamomile, which is why Hand Picked Hotels chose a brand that thinks of every little detail for our guests.
As such all of our bedrooms have a selection of Clipper teas that will leave you feeling relaxed and revived or if you prefer something a little more luxurious and rich, why not try their instant hot chocolate. From its everyday teas to infusions – such as green, peppermint, wild berry, lemon & ginger and green tea, there is something for everybody who enjoys a good old cuppa.

Formed by two tea fanatics in 1984 and guided by their mantra, ‘it’s what’s on the inside that counts’, today they are renowned for their multi-award-winning range of natural artificial-free drinks. The pair travelled the world to find the best tea gardens and they now work with growers in Africa, India and Sri Lanka to source, select and blend their own bags to ensure every Clipper cup is delicious, pure and fair. They even became the UK’s first Fairtrade tea company.
While tea is often thought of as a quintessentially British drink, and we have been drinking it for over 350 years, the story begins in China. Legend has it that in 2737 BC, the Chinese emperor Shen Nung was sitting beneath a Camellia sinensis (Chinese Tea) tree while his servant boiled drinking water. When some leaves from the tree blew into the water, the renowned herbalist decided to try the accidental infusion and the resulting drink was what we now call tea.
Whether true or not, tea drinking certainly became established in China centuries before it had even been heard of in western cultures, and it is still the largest producer of tea in the world creating 2,230,000 tons of it each year.
Tea is brimming with antioxidants, the disease-fighting compounds that help your body stave off illness – and it contains half the level of caffeine as coffee, so next time you stay with Hand Picked Hotels do not forget to brew you and your loved one a Clipper.
