Small ‘thank you’s’ go a long way.
Our hotels across the group are all doing their bit to support those on their doorstep from care homes to hospitals and local charities who are so desperate, and thankful, for support. Below is just a snapshot of some of the donations the hotels have made, and the initiatives they have supported, but alongside these they are very many more, and we are immensely proud of every hotel, and every team member’s individual efforts in supporting what they can within their local communities.
Nutfield Priory Hotel & Spa, Surrey
In their efforts to thank their local NHS teams, Nutfield Priory has donated Hand Picked’s very own hand cream, as well as disposable gloves and a range of snacks to nursing staff at their local minor injuries unit at Caterham Dene Hospital. They have also rewarded the Matron at Hazelwood Ward, within the local East Surrey Hospital, with nine afternoon tea vouchers for two, in support of their ‘Ward Awards’ initiative. These will be presented as a thank you gift to those looking after patients suffering from Covid-19, recognising their hard work and sacrifices. Needless to say, the team have been delighted to help.
L’Horizon Hotel & Spa, Jersey
In response to regular requests for PPE for the frontline carers and keyworkers, a number of disposable shower caps that form part of our bathroom amenity kits have been donated to local care homes run by 4health Home Care Agency in Jersey. This was a joint initiative by L’Horizon and Grand Jersey, who doubled efforts to donate as many caps as they could to carers visiting homes with residents suffering from Covid-19.
Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa, Jersey
The hotel team are doing all they can to support the local hospitals, community groups and charities on the island in their individual fights to help look after those who are suffering and support each other. Last month, the hotel’s restaurant, Tassili, donated several cheese platters to the Bartlett Ward and Sorel Ward at the hospital, where patients with Covid-19 are being treated. A great and welcome surprise which was really well received! In addition, 100% cotton shirts from unused uniforms have been rounded up and donated to local groups to make sewing masks for carers and keyworkers and bags to put their uniform in at work so it can go straight in the wash when they get home. Unused waistcoats and ties from their uniform supply have also been donated to make into hair bands and fastenings for PPE masks.
Bailbrook House Hotel
General Manager Russell Lines and his team delivered over 100 care packages including magazines, hand lotions and biscuits to the staff at The Forever Friends Appeal in Bath - a local charity organisation close to the hotel who raise money for the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust. Patsy Gould, their Corporate Officer, was delighted, commenting: "Thank you very much once again for your wonderful donation, all items are very much appreciated".
And finally….
NHS and keyworker heroes Showing appreciation for those who do so much. Thank you so much for everyone who nominated their NHS or keyworker hero in our last competition on Facebook and Instagram.
We had hundreds and hundreds of responses - some with simply nominated names and others with heart-warming stories of selfless acts and general kindness from their 'hero' which was really touching. A winner was picked at random and they were presented with a voucher for an overnight stay for two to use at one of our Hand Picked Hotels in the near future, when our doors once again reopen.
