Rievaulx Terrace
Created by the Duncombe family and finished circa 1757, Rievaulx Terrace was designed for promenading along and enjoying meals in an opulence and style.
It maintains its unique feeling of grandeur and tranquillity. The woods are a perfect start to your visit, giving tantalising glimpses of the terrace and the views beyond as well as opportunities to enjoy nature and wildlife. The Tuscan Temple is your stop when you leave the woods. As you walk down the terrace, spectacular views of Rievaulx Abbey and the valley beyond, are revealed through man-made vistas. As you approach the end of the terrace, the final reveal will lead you to the Ionic Temple, where the family dined under the magnificent painted ceiling.
