Head Concierge at Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa in the Channel Islands, Hugo De Castro, has been crowned Concierge of the Year at the 2017 Boutique Hotelier Personal Service Star Awards.
Hugo was presented his award by Boutique Hotelier magazine Editor, Zoe Monk, at a glittering reception in London, during which she praised Hugo for his commitment to delivering first class customer service, commenting: “Hugo has worked at the Grand Jersey Hotel in St Helier for over three decades and is unconditionally customer-focused, with a commitment to the job that goes well beyond the call of duty.”
Now in their fourth year, the Boutique Hotelier Personal Service Star Awards are designed to celebrate the crème de la crème of the boutique hotel industry with the aim to recognise and reward those individuals both front and back of house who work tirelessly to make their hotel stand out from the rest. The awards are judged by some of the hotel industry’s leading experts, including Giovanna Grossi, group area manager for the AA Hotel Services and Peter Hancock, chief executive, Pride of Britain Hotels.
Hugo commented, “I feel extremely honoured to have won this award and privileged to have worked at the Grand Jersey Hotel for many years. I absolutely love what I do! Creating memories for our guests and making each guest stay special is something that I feel comes naturally to me, so to be recognised and rewarded for that is just fantastic. I am thrilled to be taking this accolade back to Jersey and I look forward to serving our guests at the hotel for many more years to come.”
Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa is part of Hand Picked Hotels’ group of country house hotels and spa resorts in the UK and the Channel Islands owned and operated by Chairman Julia Hands, who added: “I am absolutely delighted for Hugo. Not only does he know the island inside out and all the best spots to explore, but he prides himself on knowing many of our guests by name as well as their individual preferences, so for them a stay at The Grand Jersey Hotel is like coming home.”
Julia continued, “I receive a number of letters and emails each week with feedback from our guests, and I read them all. Hugo regularly stands out in comments from guests of the Grand Jersey Hotel for his warm welcome and effortless customer service approach. He is a great ambassador for Hand Picked Hotels and this award is thoroughly well deserved.”
Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa overlooks Jersey’s captivating St Aubin’s Bay and is well established as a leading hotel on the island for leisure breaks and special occasions.
