If you are looking to pull off a wedding that is equal parts nerdy and cool, here is a perfect example of a geek chic couple doing it their way at New Hall Hotel & Spa.

When it comes to personalising your wedding, you can do more than just write your own vows. In fact, one of the biggest trends right now is geeky inspired weddings, with couples adding touches from their favourite toys, video games, books and films. Moreover, there is plenty of stylish ways to achieve it without going for a full-on themed wedding, as Kayleigh and Aaron Miles have perfectly demonstrated. “Our theme evolved into three of our favourite things, Lego and Star Wars, which are Aaron’s passions, and Harry Potter, which is my guilty pleasure having grown up with films,” explained Kayleigh.

“Aaron and I wanted the wedding to feel elegant, which is one of the reasons why we chose New Hall, but we also wanted to incorporate our favourite films and Lego. Planning a geeky wedding gives you the chance to get really creative and we found that while the touches were small it made a big difference to the overall feel and allowed us to inject some of our personality into the day. It probably provided a talking point for the guests, too!” While it might sound like an eclectic combination to pull off, the pair achieved their goal, making their celebration uniquely beautiful and cool. Their secret was to focus on the details, such as naming their tables after places from the Harry Potter books and using Lego Star Wars Stormtroopers as place card holders that the guests could take home. The favours – canvas bags filled with sweets – were adorned with Princess Leia and Han Solo, along with Kayleigh and Aaron’s names and wedding date. Even the ring pillow was Harry Potter themed.

While the couple opted for traditional attire – with Kayleigh wearing a white floor length A-line wedding dress and Aaron and the groomsmen donned in light grey suits, they added small nerdy touches to the outfits. Kayleigh for example had a Harry Potter garter, while Aaron wore a Lego Luke Skywalker themed buttonhole, and his entourage wore Star Wars cufflinks representing C3P0, Chewbacca, Darth Vader and Stormtroopers.

As England’s oldest listed inhabited moated house, the medieval manor is as majestic as it is magical which was just perfect for Kayleigh and Aaron. “The building, which has so much character, is set in the most beautiful landscaped grounds, so we were fortunate enough to have a variety of locations to take our photos and remember our special day by. It had such a natural elegance about it all,” said Kayleigh.

Living just over ten miles from the hotel meant that the couple could easily get to the taste-testing event. “Aaron and I were allowed to try two starters, two mains and two desserts in order to pick our menu. We ended up with a goats cheese and beetroot salad to start, followed by chicken in merlot sauce with fondant potato and vegetables, and to finish crème brûlée with lemon biscuits. “For the evening, we had pulled pork baps with gravy. Aaron and I also hired a chocolate fountain and a sweet cart,” concludes Kayleigh. The cake, which was decorated with Lego figures and purple roses, came from the very same shop that Kayleigh’s parents used for their wedding, and provided another sumptuous treat for everyone.

Talking of the reception, the couple chose to entertain their guests with a DJ and inflatable giant toys including football and snakes and ladders, which were as popular with the children as they were with the adults. Choosing a theme that matches you and your partner’s personality to help you with accessorising and decorating is a great idea, and as Kayleigh and Aaron have proved it really helped to make their special day a unique and a momentous occasion.

“We would not have changed a thing,” confessed Kayleigh. “The venue was perfect, the day ran smoothly, the suppliers all turned up on time and did not let us down – some of which were recommended by New Hall, and all of the staff were helpful, friendly and amazing. “This day was 20 months of planning, and it was indescribable getting to finally marry each other and seeing all of our planning unfolding in front of our eyes.”
